Funny Words

Every kid does this and I think it's so funny. You know when kids don't know exactly what's being said (they especially do this in songs) so they use the knowledge of words they have to plug something in that sounds right. So the other day we were talking to the girls about the Olympics. So, Allison remembers that the theme of VBS at Abby's Church was the Olympics and they sang this song called "Olympic Fever." So Allison sings it in its entirety word for word. Emma listens patiently then after her sister is done proceeds to sing, "A Lipstick Beaver." I guess the word Olympic means nothing to Emma and maybe she was daydreaming the 16 times the word was said during our explanation of the Olympics - but anyway, she seriously thought her sister was singing a song called A Lipstick Beaver. Mark and I laughed so hard.

There are so many, but I also remember when Allison was about 3 and we had a Bible Songs c.d. and one of the songs was called "Only Believe." And it went, "Only believe, only believe, All things are possible. Only Believe." So, I'm driving and probably talking to God because I do a lot of that while I'm driving. And I begin to start listening to 3-year old Allison in the back seat singing. And she is singing, "Holy meme, holy meme. All things are possible. Holy meme." I turned the music down and said, "Baby, what does that song say??" And she repeats, "Holy meme, mama." Allison calls my mom Meme. So, there you go - Lifeway has produced a song about her meme. Hmmm...

"No, baby, it doesn't say holy meme. It says only believe. Listen (turn up the music, wait for the words and I say along with the c.d.) Only Believe, Only Believe, All things are possible if you Only Believe."

Allison listens, cocks her head and wrinkles her little eyebrows then says, "No...mama. Listen. (and proceeds to e-n-u-n-c-i-a-t-e each syllable very carefully for her ignorant mother) Holeee Meee meee Holeeee meee meee. All things are posssssiiiiibllllle, Holeeee meeee meeee."

What could I say, except, "okay."

Mispronunciations are also funny. Allison used to call hamburgers hangaboogers. Mark and I still call them that. Emma couldn't say the word girl for the longest time. It's only recently that she began pronouncing the l in girl. She was a "litta gur" (little girl). Again, half the time when we are talking to the girls, we'll say, "Okay, gurs..." Isn't it a little sad when they grow out of the mispronunciations? Another sign they are growing up and growing out of childish things. I suppose I could have done better with the girls and more often corrected their mispronunciations, but for the most part I've let them grow out of them. One of my good friends is a speech therapist. If she read this blog, this entry would make her pull her hair out! he! he!Hey, I was a teacher, not a speech therapist. I knew the girls wouldn't grow up and announce to their coworkers, "Hey gur, want to go gwab a hangabooger for lunch?"

Too precious! Reminds me that Bubba still calls Emma his "Emma Root". She reminds him in her cute voice, "no, Jared, it's Emma RUUTTHH!" LOVE IT! Sad in a way, cause they are growing up so fast! I posted a blog and some pics with my SUPER COOL camera, sister! hahahahahahaha
