Fellowship

The best thing about church yesterday was the fellowship. I guess after feeling like we were snowed in during the blizzard of 2011, I was needing to see some other people besides the four I live with. Weird, because I wasn't tired of my little family at all; but it just felt good to see my friends at church.

Our Sunday School class and a couple of other classes we share a hall with were on duty for greeting ministry yesterday. Well, we forgot. We rushed like crazy to get to church early for duty....but made it on time. Which means we missed our duty. Which means I wanted to hide my face everytime someone I knew greeted me! The bonus of greeting duty is that afterward, you get to go to the atrium for coffee and donuts and use the rest of Sunday School time to visit.

So, Mark and I are walking toward the atrium, a little too early for visit time, but definitely too late to go ask for a badge to start greeting the stragglers. I looked up at Mark, wrinkled my nose and said, "I feel so bad every time I see one of our friends greeting." And my man's response was, "Yeah....Oh well. But we can still get a donut. I'm hungry!" He's free like that. I'm laughing as I type this because little junk like that is what makes me have so much fun with him.

We visited with our friends and laughed and caught up with everybody and then headed into church. Every year on Super Bowl Sunday, our GA's bring pots and collect money to give to a food bank. And I scope out the ones I know and give them coins on my way into church. So, I passed one I know from Children's choir and gave her a dollar. Then, right before walking into big church, I saw our Sara who we taught when she was about 3. Now I think she's 5.

Oh my goodness. Sara is the cutest darn thing and I could just squeeze her til she pops. She is tiny. She's this short little girl, and she has black hair with bangs and it's cut in a bob, and she has the happiest little smile. Once in Sunday School, Sara told me she was going to cook me some dinner. So, I said, "Oh yes, please make me some lasagne."

She looked at me horrified and said, "I cannot cook my sister."

Her sister's name is Sonia. I think she thought Ms. JeanAnn was loco.

So, there's my Sara holding an empty pot. Well, that would not do. So, I squatted down and hugged her face. I told her I thought it was plum crazy to let her pot remain empty and dumped about five dollars worth of coins from my coin purse into her pot. She smiled and thanked me, then showed me a bigger pot right behind her where she was emptying her proceeds. Thank the Lord! I could not imagine anybody walking past that face and not putting something in her pot!

I saw Mr. Tom on the way into church. He makes me smile. He reminds me so much of my Pappaw when my Pappaw was about 10 or 15 years younger. In my mind, I refer to him as "Church Pappaw." He wears a suit every Sunday and he teaches kindergarten Sunday School with his wife. Emma had them last year and I'm pretty sure Emma thought she was Mr. Tom's favorite. Little does she know, so did all the other kids, because that's just how he makes them all feel. Special.

Gotta run... Hope you run into someone today who makes you smile.
